Nobrand 1000 lumens Light

Nobrand 1000 lumens Light

Winter is here, you need strong and efficient lights to benefit from your afterwork rides…
because it’s a pleasure to organize a bike ride at night,
because it could be a horror if your lights are not efficient.

There is a huge difference between what a we call a security light and a performance light such as this 1000 lumens light reviewed here.
Security light main rule is to help you being viewed by the automobilist and pedestrian.
Performance light is here to light your trail such as a car can do it on the road.

The light tested here is nobrand. You can find the same model in many shops (included ebay) for a price around 90€/100€. This is not expensive if you compare offers coming from leading brands such as Hope, Sigma, Lezyne…
——- UPDATE : Found on ebay, same light around 50$ —-

Overview of the nobrand 1000 lumens light

The package includes the light (already designed to fit the handlebar), the battery and its bag, the battery charge and to finish the head mount.
Finishing looks good, assembly is very simple, and cables are long enough to set up the material on your bike without difficulties.

The packaging is well done, maybe too much because it’s pretty impossible to store again the light on it..

You can see that the light is compact (i put my hand on the picture to help you to check the size) and then, your bike cockpit will not be crowded  (mainly if you have already a GPS or a bike computer).

The battery is inside this case, helful to protect it from the mud and rain. The cable connects directly to the light and the plug is also protected to work in all conditions without any risks.

Set up on the bike

After a complete cerebral time, we decide to attach the battery below the stem. There is no problem with a 70mn length stem.

Start up

You can use one of the 4 modes available on the light.
> High Light Mode: 100%
> Medium Light Mode: 50%
> Weak Light Mode: 10%>
> Flash light Modes: 100% (if you want a night club effect in the wood..)

Mode selection is easy since you just have to push the green button (green when you’re battery if full) to change mode.

One critical thing : look out, light is very hot after few minutes of use.. you can easily boil an egg on it…
So we do not use the head mount since in this review, only the handlebar mount.

In action

You only need one ride by night to know that this light is one of your new best friend. The one-led system, offering 1000 lumens of intensity, works well, there is no doubt. Don’t hesitate to light ahead of your bike, it will bring you more comfort without lake of visibility just in front of you. One mistake when you use the light for the first time is to set the beam too close to the front wheel. with this setting, you will think that the light is not as well powerful as promise, and then, you won’t ride well since the key by night is to anticipate a lot.

This overall good performance hides a (very) small lack of beam wideness. This is definitively not a critical aspect but it could be more pleasant to have a “fog lamps” effect on the sides of the trail. Nevertheless, using the most powerful mode is only necessary if you open the trail.
Autonomy indicated on the notice is right (around 3 hours) , but be careful, the light do not inform you precisely when battery is over. In this case, the lamp is off in a very short time, without loosing intensity before…

So it is a Yes for us, even if some purists will prefer brands such as Hope.. but for 4x more expensive.
